- Drøbak is an idyllic fishing village 23 miles, 40 minutes bus ride south of Oslo. Drøbak is a favourite place for artists and for people who like to live life at a slow pace. As my husband is an artist, we live in Drøbak, and I know every corner of this place, so I can customize the tour for you.
- Strolling around this charming place with its very-well maintained 1700 wooden houses with colorful gardens, gives you a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
- In Drøbak there is a variety of small shops to find treats and hidden gems and more than 10 art galleries to explore, all within walking distance.
- This is the home town of Santa Claus and at the famous Christmas-House you can purchase Christmas decorations and gifts to take with you home.
- If you need to relax with a cup of coffee or refreshments there are a lot of cafes, and for lunch there are many small and cozy restaurants serving delicious meals.
- Drøbak played a key role at the beginning of WWII. You will hear the dramatic events that took place at Oscarsborg Fortress those crucial days in April 1940. Maybe you would like to take the ferry over and visit the Oscarsborg Fortress museum. The ferry ticket costs approximately $10 and gives you free entrance to the museum.
- The open-air museum with buildings from 1700’s is free of charge as well as The Norwegian Cartoonist Gallery.
Other museums worth visiting are:
- The Drøbak Akvarium, which is Oslo Fjord’s only saltwater aquarium, entrance fee approx. $10.
- The Drøbak boat association’s maritime collections with a separate, small “Lutefisk” museum. Entrance fee $5 (40NOK).
